I saw a guy with your backpack pass me by in the street. For a moment I hoped it was you.

I saw a guy with your backpack and he had earrings like you and hair as long as yours, but he had blue jeans and red and white Nikes and it felt wrong.

I saw a guy with your shoes but he had a green puffer jacket and curly hair.

I saw a guy with your hair but not your face.

I saw a guy with your smile but he wasn’t looking at me.

I see pieces of you everywhere around me. And I anguish at knowing it’s not you.
